Scripture :: Luke 1:1-9:62
Thoughts ::
Today's reading left me with many questions. I am going to toss my questions out there in hopes that you have some responses.
4v13 When the Devil had finished tempting Jesus, he left him until the next opportunity came. (NLT)
What was the next opportunity? The betrayal by Judas? Or something before that?
6v45 Whatever is in your heart determines what you say. (NLT)
How do I speak to my spouse? How do I speak to my kids? Are they loving and kind words or are they critical and harsh words? The mouth speaks out of the overflow of the heart.
8v1-3 A section talking about the people following Jesus.
Herod, who was out to kill Jesus, was actually funding Jesus' ministry probably without knowing it. I just find this fascinating and slightly funny that Luke would choose to include this in account of Jesus' life.
8v37 Jesus just heals a demon possessed man and sends the demons into a heard of pigs. The pigs then drown in a lake and the text says, And all the people in that region begged Jesus to go away and leave them alone, for a great wave of fear swept over them.
Wait, didn't Jesus just do a good thing? Isn't casting demons out of people considered a good thing? Why did the people want him to leave? Why were they afraid of him?
