24v47 With my authority, take this message of repentance to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: 'There is forgiveness of sins for all who turn to me.'
Jesus gave the early disciples authority to tell others about the Kingdom of God. The same authority that they used to preach the Good News of Jesus is available to you and I. Jesus gives us the courage to tell our friends about him. Jesus gives us the strength to live for him when it seems crazy to do so. Jesus gives us peace to serve him in the midst of persecution.
What often happens in my life, particularly when I mess up, is that I immediately feel guilty. The guilty feeling is not necessarily a bad thing. When it becomes trouble is when I suppress that guilty feeling or try to mask it by focusing on something else. No matter what I do, that feeling still resides in me somewhere. What I have discovered is that confessing it to Jesus and allowing his work on the cross to penetrate my heart is the only way to alleviate the guilt associated with my sin. Jesus is the only one who can set me free from the bondage of sin and the feelings associate with it.
